Even though one 45-minute mentoring call can change your life, mentors usually offer to “stop by” once a month or so to talk about interesting challenges you’re facing and help you plan the next steps in your career.
Just a couple of notes: Because you probably want to impress your mentor, you’re more likely to downplay problems. So, if you get into this kind of relationship, keep that in mind. Also, remember that as great as a mentor can be, it takes time to find the right person who shares your goals and values and cares enough to help you.

- You have trouble with unusually low self-esteem

Psychologists are usually very good at having empathy and understanding and respecting other people’s points of view and experiences. Most of the time, they ask questions, listen, and help people look into their pasts to find out why they feel the way they do. A licensed psychologist can diagnose a person’s health problems and suggest ways to treat them. They can also help you figure out how to deal with your feelings and tough situations. Most of the time, the goal of counseling is to improve a person’s emotional strength or change the way they act.
How much a Psychologist cost depends on where you live and how much your insurance deductible is. But many have sliding scale rates, which means you can talk to them about lowering your bill. Especially if you are going out of network or really can’t afford it.
A good leader helps their team members in the right ways. Mentoring, coaching, and counseling are skills that a manager or team leader can use to improve the health and productivity of their employees. Even though these three frameworks often overlap, you can choose the best one for you based on your credentials, the skills of your team, and the nature of your job.
